Event DV Cover

Cover Story | 2008 was an incredible year… But wow… WOW! It’s barely a week into the new year and I’m holding in my hands a copy of the January issue of Event DV Magazine… And I’m speechless. Appearing on the cover is quite a surreal start to 2009. A big thank you to Stephen Nathans-Kelly for the privilege of sharing the story behind our latest endeavor, Neil + Jigna’s Bollywood concept movie “Tum Hi Ho (You Are The One),” in the January issue. Click on the image above to read the incredible article written by columnist Elizabeth Avery-Merfeld.

The cover image would not have been possible without the super talent of good friend and photographer, Chris Griffiths of Imagery Immaculate Photography, who talks about the cover shoot in his latest blog post. Be sure to stop by his site to see more of his amazing work.

I just want to say that you guys Rock! Great work and really love the camera moves and how did you get that exposure balance and color? Was some of it done in post? I wanted to ask did you use any custom setting on the Canon? If so, can you share them with me? I just purchase the 35mm adapter and what lens attachment did you use for the shoot? I’m looking forward to shooting a love story for a wedding soon. If you have any tips or anything that you can share with me, I would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Melvin

Thanks, Melvin. We were working within a very tight timeline on the Bollywood film; there was no time for color grading in post, so everything you see is in-camera. (There was also no time to do a proper mix, as you’ll notice the audio in the scene post-Guru is panned. That’s how it screened & I’m not a fan of revisionism.) We did use a series of custom color settings on the Canon XHA1; that’s a must in my opinion. We took the ever popular “VividRGB” and did a series of modifications to acheive the look for certain scenes. The Brevis is a great, solid unit. I think you’ll be very pleased. My advice is be sure to watch all of Dennis’ tutorials online and check your unit thoroughly for dust before you get on set.

Congrats on the cover, Kevin!! That’s such a great pic of you!! If movies don’t work out you’ve got a career in modeling ;)
